Check waiting times: My Planned Care

Waiting for a hospital appointment?

If you are waiting for a hospital appointment or treatment, you can use the My Planned Care website to check the waiting times at your hospital.

Check hospital waiting times on the My Planned Care website

Your GP Practice is here for you and we are doing our best to get you the care you need as soon as possible. While you are waiting for a hospital appointment, we wanted to let you know that there is more support available to you.

Anyone waiting for a hospital appointment, operation or treatment, can now access the NHS My Planned Care Patient Digital Platform which provides direct access to the latest average wait time information for their hospital, as well as helpful advice and support whilst you wait. You can access the latest average wait times for operations and procedures by speciality at the NHS My Planned Care website.

We encourage you to look at this site where you may find the information you need before contacting your GP or hospital for an update about any elective procedures you are waiting for.

Updated weekly, the site is easy-to-use and is ‘open-access’ so your carer, friends, relatives, and your NHS team can also access this information. As well as wait time information, the platform also includes helpful details about how to manage your pain, mental health, keeping healthy and accessing financial help and other local support whilst you wait. It can also help you to prepare for your appointment/operation, including how to make a plan for your care and treatment alongside your healthcare professional.

Medication Ordering

Please note that the POD service closed on the 31st of March 2024. Therefore, you must order your medication/prescription through the NHS app

Your prescription will be issued within 2 working days if due (so 28 days after previous issue). You should put in a request no more than one week before due date, early requests will be rejected unless there is a legitimate reason for request – i.e., Holiday.

You may need a medication review with the Medicine Coordinator/Clinical Pharmacist/GP.

For those who are not able to order prescriptions via the NHS App, please contact the practice direct to discuss this further.

Contraception & Family Planning

The practice offers a full range of contraceptive options free of charge in surgery. Please book an appointment with a practice nurse, nurse practitioner or GP to discuss this.

Dr Straw & Dr Tindale fit IUDs (coils) and implants. We recommend booking an appointment with either of them to discuss fitting if you haven’t used these methods before.

For more information about contraceptive options, please see the NHS website:

Pharmacy First

The Pharmacy First service enables to visit pharmacies, as a first port of call, for help with a range of common minor conditions.

The service enables pharmacists to offer advice to patients and supply NHS medicines (including antibiotics), where clinically appropriate, for:

1. Sinusitis – for children and adults aged 12 years and over;

2. Sore throat – for children and adults aged 5 years and over;

3. Earache (Acute otitis media) – for children aged 1 to 17 years;

4. Infected insect bite – for children and adults aged 1 year and over;

5. Impetigo – for children and adults aged 1 year and over;

6. Shingles – for adults aged 18 years and over; and

7. Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women aged 16 to 64 years.

It is hoped that the service will be expanded to include more conditions in the future.

In the consultations with a pharmacist, people with symptoms suggestive of the seven conditions will be provided with advice and be supplied, where clinically necessary, with a prescription-only treatment under a Patient Group Direction (PGD) or a pharmacy only medicine.

If the pharmacy team cannot help with the condition the patient is presenting with, they will be referred to the appropriate healthcare access point, such as a GP surgery or A&E.

In addition to this, patients can continue to be able to access emergency prescription medicines or consultations on other minor conditions where they have been referred to the pharmacy by NHS 111, their GP surgery or other settings.

Musculoskeletal First Contact Practitioners (FCP)

Did you know we now have two FCPs at our practice?

They are Specialist Physiotherapists by background with considerable experience and expertise in identifying and managing musculoskeletal conditions.

This means that rather than you having to wait to see the doctor first with your bone, joint or muscle pain you can now have direct access to our Specialist Physiotherapists.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions affect
over 20 million people in the UK

The FCP role will allow you to be seen by the right person at the right time for your condition so that you can achieve your desired outcome in less time.

The appointments will be for 20 minutes where you will be assessed and the appropriate treatment pathway will be decided upon via telephone and or face to face.

The appointments are not for hands on treatment as such but the majority of musculoskeletal problems can be sorted out with advice and exercise prescription allowing you to self-manage and improve your symptoms.

If you require onward referral to specialist services or for clinical tests such as x-rays or bloods you can be referred directly by the FCP.

What we are seeing nationally in pilot studies is that after patients see an FCP, just 5% of patients choose to see a GP afterwards and 96% would recommend the service to friends and family.

If you feel you have bone, joint or muscle pain and want to see the FCP please speak to our reception staff.
